Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

Are you looking for something literary this Valentine's Day?
Why not Say it with Shakespeare?
Lots of literary gift ideas at Something Literary including Shakespeare Love Badges, Mirrors, Magnets and Bookmarks.

There's also some beautiful Emma Bridgewater notebooks and writing sets, and my new favourite book: Love Letters: 2000 Years of Romance.

This beautiful book from the British Library celebrates two thousand years of love letter history, from ancient Egypt to the present day. Included here are facsimile reproductions of twenty-five letters, which are fully transcribed along with engaging commentaries about the correspondents and their circumstances and portraits of the writers and recipients. Love Letters includes correspondence by figures such as Henry VIII, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Brontë, Admiral Nelson, Oscar Wilde, and Mervyn Peake. The words of love letters allow us insights into the private relationships of people across centuries, cultures, and continents, and the original manuscripts of such letters grant the reader a direct connection with the author of such personal words.

All orders dispatched same/next day.

Getting Creative!

Only recently I stumbled upon a great range of best-selling books about creativity by Keri Smith ~ Author/Illustrator

They're not your average run-of-the-mill 'How To' books that's for sure!

Each one encourages you to get in touch with your creative side in terms of writing, art, crafting and even destroying. Yes, destroying!

'Wreck This Journal' is
'For anyone who's ever wished to, but had trouble starting, keeping, or finishing a journal or sketchbook comes Wreck This Journal, an illustrated book that features a subversive collection of prompts, asking readers to muster up their best mistake and mess making abilities to fill the pages of the book (and destroy them). Acclaimed illustrator Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in "destructive" acts-poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, and more in order to experience the true creative process. Readers discover a new way of art and journal making and new ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process.'

'This is not a book' invites you to
take a uniquely skewed look at the purpose and function of 'a book'. Keri Smith asks readers to creatively examine all the different ways This Is Not a Book can be used. With intriguing prompts, readers will discover that this book can be:

A secret message - tear out a page, write a note on it for a stranger, and leave it in a public place.

A recording device - have everyone you contact today write their name in the book.

An instrument - create as many sounds as you can using the book, like flipping the pages fast or slapping the cover.

This Is Not a Book will engage readers by having them define everything a book can be by asking, 'If it's not a book, what is it then?' - with a kaleidoscope of possible answers.

And 'Finish This Book' is a direct request to you, the creator, from Keri Smith herself to actually finish the book
Dear Reader,

One dark and stormy night, I found some strange scattered pages abandoned in a park...

I collected and assembled them, trying to solve the mystery of this unexpected discovery, and I am now passing the task on to you.

Your mission is to become the new author of this work. You will continue the research and provide the content. In order to complete the task, you will have to undergo some secret intelligence training, which I have included in this volume. Since no one knows what lies ahead, please proceed with caution, but know...

This book does not exist without you.

Yours truly,

Keri Smith
